Smoothing of Polygonal Chains for 2D Shape Representation Using a G2-Continuous Cubic A-Spline

چکیده
We have developed a G-continuous cubic A-spline, suitable for smoothing polygonal chains used in 2D shape representation. The proposed A-spline scheme interpolates an ordered set of data points in the plane, as well as the direction and sense of tangent vectors associated to these points. We explicitly characterize curve families which are used to construct the A-spline sections, whose members have the required interpolating properties and possess a minimal number of inflection points. The A-spline considered here has many attractive features: it is very easy to construct, it provides us with convenient geometric control handles to locally modify the shape of the curve and the error of approximation is controllable. Furthermore, it can be rapidly displayed, even though its sections are implicitly defined algebraic curves.

3D Reconstruction Using Cubic Bezier Spline Curves and Active Contours (Case Study)
Introduction 3D reconstruction of an object from its 2D cross-sections (slices) has many applications in different fields of sciences such as medical physics and biomedical engineering. In order to perform 3D reconstruction, at first, desired boundaries at each slice are detected and then using a correspondence between points of successive slices surface of desired object is reconstructed. متن کاملTranslational Covering of Closed Planar Cubic B-Spline Curves
Spline curves are useful in a variety of geometric modeling and graphics applications and covering problems abound in practical settings. This work defines a class of covering decision problems for shapes bounded by spline curves. As a first step in addressing these problems, this paper treats translational spline covering for planar, uniform, cubic B-splines. Inner and outer polygonal approxim...
متن کاملContinuous medial representations for geometric object modeling in 2D and 3D
We describe a novel continuous medial representation for describing object geometry and a deformable templates method for fitting the representation to images. Our representation simultaneously describes the boundary and medial loci of geometrical objects, always maintaining Blum’s symmetric axis transform (SAT) relationship. Cubic b-splines define the continuous medial locus and the associated...
متن کاملModelling unilateral frictionless contact using the null-space method and cubic B-Spline interpolation
The analysis of unilateral sliding contact in elasticity is equivalent to a minimisation problem subjected to a set of inequality constraints. However, the presence of boundary discontinuities, such as those stemming from the spatial discretisation, appears as a major problem to determine the set of active constraints. This work introduces a smoothing technique of the master surface resorting t...
متن کاملShape-preserving, multiscale fitting of univariate data by cubic L1 smoothing splines
Bivariate cubic L1 smoothing splines are introduced. The coefficients of a cubic L1 smoothing spline are calculated by minimizing the weighted sum of the L1 norms of second derivatives of the spline and the 1 norm of the residuals of the data-fitting equations. Cubic L1 smoothing splines are compared with conventional cubic smoothing splines based on the L2 and 2 norms. Computational results fo...
